BOOK REVIEW

Color: Awakening the Child Within
Author: Julianne Bien

Toronto, August 2006

Color: Awakening the Child Within is a fantasy, and it has a message. Is it like Alice and her looking glass? No, but it brings feelings to the reader of Alice sliding down the rabbits hole searching for her existence in a comical way. In this story the looking glass is a universal mirror, a time machine that takes the reader through two simultaneous existences, its 11:11 on the cosmic clock and time stands still until the end of the story. Biblical metaphors are laced throughout this book, and give the reader a feeling of familiarity.

While the scientific community fumbles and challenges our intellect with their explanation of the creation of time, in this action packed fantasy, time does not exist as outlined in most 'once upon a time' fairy tales. Instead this story begins with 'Once within a time space continuum, eons before perception. Time stood still. It was and was not.' Is this a book for children to enjoy as a fairy tale or is it for adults to ponder and consider what can only be described as a teaching tool? Only the reader can decide.

The book has a fictional fascination, focused on scientific fact. It refers to the genesis of creation. While New Scientist magazine, August 2006 edition, questions the series of big bangs in creation, this fantasy shatters the traditional view of defined beginnings and endings. The author describes creation as color beams of light. Her animated characters include the children of the multi-universe, and seven galactic, colorful, Pioneers along with the author's personification of the planets and the stars.

The book invites the reader to see life in a whole new perspective, here the sun never sets, and the writer's perception of creation is projected through the seven colorful Pioneers. You are provided with a window of opportunity to find hidden truths through the mystical ways of the children of the multi-universe and the magical ways of the Pioneers.

There is a dark side of light represented in this fantasy, and the metaphoric 'apple' is offered to tempt the characters to cross over to the their side.

There are a number of references in the book that refer to science. The characters were called pioneers based on phi being the mathematical formula for creation combined with ionosphere - phi-ionosphere. The author imbeds a great deal of sci-fi, fantasy that will tantalize the trekkies and the techies.

The reader gets a chance to get to know the Pioneers and all the characters in this fantasy, in fact, most have creative names that reflect their scientific nature. The author gives glances of the Voice and the plan for Earth, the plot is woven around genesis.

The reader will go back again and again asking themselves, 'isn't this is the bible somewhere - doesn't this fantasy sound a little like the story of creation?'

It is easy to visualize the characters, with their colorful spectrum that creates a rainbow of excitement. I would be surprised if anyone read this book just once - it's a must read and re-read. I envision the reader highlighting and creating dog-eared pages.

The author has given the Pioneers a role to play and they play it well. The reader will recognize their gender, their hierarchy and their purpose.

The back cover of Color: Awakening the Child Within describes the book as a space odyssey fantasy, colored with science, wisdom, poetry and rhyme. The seven galactic Pioneers are on a mission to change our world, and arrive in a bubble spacecraft. They possess magical powers that are carried in the frequencies of light. This is a story that will carry you to the depths of your subconscious mind and spiral you back again. It's a whimsical adventure, where the Pioneers retrace the original human journey.

Did the end never exist? Did the beginning never take place? Was it a dream within a dream? This is a tightly woven story of creation, a true literary find for those who can and will read between the lines.

The story is more than just a fantasy, it's an educational tool designed to teach the reader the essence of the language of light and itÕs influence on the creation of the world. In a comical fun way, it draws the readers into themselves, asking the question - Are they the characters in the book?

Color: Awakening The Child Within concludes or perhaps begins with who was the first person on Earth as we know it today.

A must read for anyone who enjoys fantasy, science, wisdom, wit and rhyme. The author's poetry is extraordinary and is an integral part of the beginning, middle and end of the book.
