People today believe they should enjoy a long, active life and not quite look or feel their chronological age. Baby boomers entering their late middle years are trying harder than any previous generation to push back the outward signs of aging with plastic surgery and other interventionist procedures such as injectibles and peels that offer the hope of eternal youth. And yet there is no end of conflicting advice on maintaining good health and a healthy appearance. Skin, our outermost defense against the elements and our outermost statement of health and vitality, is a perfect example. On the one hand, too much sun is bad. UV rays has been linked to cancer and over time, rumour has it, that it leaves the skin dry, marked with Ôage spotsÕ and wrinkled, an image which has us running for protective cover. Then again, itÕs a scientific fact that natural sunlight is vital not only for hormonal functions and intercellular communication, but for the production of essential Vitamin D. Skin has the natural ability to produce Vitamin D (90%) when struck by UV rays carried in sunlight. By the way, Vitamin D is not a vitamin but a steroid hormone precursor that is not naturally present in foodstuff. Insufficient sunlight can create a deficiency with adverse consequences for our physical and emotional well being and appearance. Clearly, itÕs all about achieving balance. ItÕs okay to take your sunglasses off in moderation!

Light energy is basic to all life. Skin is like an antenna that absorbs, processes and distributes the information carried in light for our existence. Sunlight charges our cells for their daily tasks. This light is the carrier of energy in our bodies. Indeed, modern science is discovering more and more evidence of a fundamental law that the interaction of matter in the universe Ð even at the subatomic level Ð is associated with or accomplished through the transmission of light energy.

The good news is that we can become managers of our own light energy intake and distribution and make positive adjustments.

The sun emits an array of visible and invisible colours, each with their individual frequency and characteristics. The visible colour band of frequencies can be seen in a rainbow after a spring shower. Most ancient writings allude to the Ôas above, so belowÕ concept. This asserts that we are a holographic reflection of the universe and that there is a rainbow within each of us.

As long as this life force within is harmonious and balanced, we donÕt have to do anything, but imbalances need to be addressed. When people are not well, physically and emotionally, when they have a health disturbance, acute or chronic, they are suffering from an energetic imbalance that is stressing the whole body. Unresolved traumas - environmental, emotional, or physical - donÕt disappear. They remain in the form of energy signatures imprinted at a cellular level. Physical pain is the culmination of a long chain of related energetic traumas or blocks that reverberate throughout our layers of body-mind-soul.

Our goal is to reestablish the energy balance in the whole body. By using a simple colour-ray illuminator, such as the LumaLight 2000ª, we can emit pure colour energy beams and introduce each colourÕs unique frequency via the skin. Each colour is associated with a different effect and serves a different purpose Ð if you feel hot-headed, if you see Ôa little red' on a given day, you can visualize green, the chromatic opposite of red, and bring it into you body to offset the colour imbalance.

In practice, a trained colour esthetic enthusiast focuses colour light on specific areas and points on the body. These locations are the traditional acupuncture points along the meridian system, reflexology zones and other established energy points situated throughout the electromagnetic field (the aura) that extends off the physical body Ð namely, the seven chakras. The chakras are aligned on the front and back of the body, they directly connect to the endocrine system and our internal organs. Stimulating these points sends a colour-coded information current along associated pathways, affecting the flow of life force.

THE PATH OF LIGHT

Colour light therapy can trace its origins back thousands of years. In ancient Egypt, healers used sunlight to refract it into colours of the spectrum and shine it on patients. In ancient Greece, Heliopolis was a center of heliotherapy - curing the ill by exposing them to the sun. In the past hundred years, several scientific discoveries have helped further our knowledge of light energy and how to manipulate our energetic balance. In the early 20th century, Russian biologists proved plant cells can communicate among themselves through a barrier of quartz glass and that light is the carrier of biological information. Several decades later, another team of Russian researchers proved that our bodies have channels of light paralleling the 12 meridians as described in traditional Chinese medicine Ð the main pathways for colour light therapy. German naturopath Peter Mandel found that when specific acupuncture points are irradiated with focused light beams of colour, pain can be alleviated within minutes, regardless of the underlying condition. But how? Dr. Valerie Hunt of UCLA provided an answer. She measured human bio-energy - the energy fields surrounding the human body. She ascertained that our bodyÕs energetic emissions display chaotic changes before pathological conditions in the tissue are diagnosed and that we receive light via our electromagnetic field, eyes and skin. These natural frequencies affect our daily actions, sensations and thoughts. From Dr. HuntÕs work flows the main postulate of colour light energy: that good health is a state of being energetically correct and that ailments begin outside the physical body as energetic imbalances that can be redressed through non-invasive means if detected early enough.

COLOUR HARMONICS
SPECTRAHUEÕS PROPRIETARY TECHNIQUES

All visible colours as well as invisible frequencies are blended in natural light. When we are exposed to this energy, we absorb as much of each frequency - each different colour - as our individual systems need through our bioenergy field, our eyes and especially our skin. Spectrahue developed a non-invasive, non-toxic, and gentle approach to energy rebalancing called Colour Harmonics that can help one achieve increased vitality and rejuvenation that is more than skin deep - but is most certainly reflected through a healthier appearance and good skin tone. Techniques are divided according to their effect: some raise energies in the body, some calm them, some balance different energies, some help in clearing negative ones. The ultimate goal is to enable recipients to look at their lives, discover and clear the trauma, conflicts and blockages that prevents them from flowing freely on their chosen path.

In the esthetic and spa environment, the colour therapist harnesses the physical properties of colours (frequencies) to achieve specific effects on the physical, emotional and spiritual state of her/his clients. Estheticians can easily learn to apply Colour Harmonics by gaining an understanding of colour energy and its applications. Each colour has its own properties. For example, the frequency of blue is applied for skin disorders like acne, psoriasis or burns. Different colours can address all kinds of energetic disturbances, whether they are rooted in lifestyle, diet, illness or emotions. Colour energy can be used on its own or applied in conjunction with other treatment procedures. Colour therapy works especially well in conjunction with massage, aromatherapy and most body treatments. The beauty is that there are no side effects.

Some techniques, such as colour light facials and bioenergy body balance, lymphatic drainage and cellulite treatments are ideal in a spa environment. The human lymphatic system is responsible for distributing white cells and some nutrients, and ensures a unified response of the whole body against invading organisms. When it becomes sluggish, the entire organism suffers from puffiness and weakened immunity. By applying colour light as an enhancement to lymphatic drainage offers a powerful cleansing technique on many levels. Positive effects may include reduction of facial lines and cellulite, detoxification of skin, stimulated hair growth and an overall feeling of being energized.

UNIVERSAL BEAUTY IS BEING ENERGETICALLY CORRECT

Health and wellness is inner beauty expressed outward. When we talk of a personÕs inner beauty in todayÕs world, itÕs a reflection of balance in his or her body-mind-soul matrix. Many people work hard at achieving this balance by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, self-development, activism and spirituality. We are intuitively aware that beauty comes from within and that energy follows the thought. We are careful how we communicate and what vibrations we send or receive. We know that from microcosm to macrocosm, everything in our universe spins and vibrates, including us. We are an inseparable union of mind, body and spirit, pulsating along in rhythm with the universe.
